Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) was developed by Dr Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder in the 1970s. So as a form of psychotherapy it’s relatively new – and definitely innovative.
Neuro Linguistic Programming, as it’s name suggests, helps people to make changes in the way that they think (that’s the ‘neuro’ part) and in the way they communicate (that’s the ‘linguistic’ part) so that they can change unwanted behaviours and install desired ones (that’s the ‘programming’ part).
NLP was largely developed from the fields of hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural counselling. So – like hypnotherapy much of its power is generated by working with the unconscious mind. This approach can often ‘side step’, so to speak, the many hours of work that can be required in some of the older forms of psychotherapy.
NLP therapists understand that by helping clients to make small changes in the way they think and behave - this can (sometimes quite rapidly) generate some very positive results. Our practice is based on the south coast of England, in Bournemouth, Dorset.
